When we first moved to Oklahoma, friends were quick to suggest weekends away in Dallas. They had plenty of recommendations for annual events, but there was only one thing they told us to do we had to do in the fall: pumpkins at the Dallas Arboretum!

Autumn at the Arboretum: Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum is massive and beautiful for all the reasons you’d want in a garden. It’s perfect for an afternoon stroll, picnic lunch or hours of exploring – whatever your speed may be in gardens!

But where the Dallas Arboretum excels is their seasonal displays. Every fall, they build an interactive pumpkin village. I’m honestly not sure what the best word for it is, but you should go. THERE ARE HOUSES MADE OF PUMPKINS, PEOPLE. And not kid-sized. Adults can comfortably walk through them with room to spare.

The themes are different each year. Last year was Peter Pan, and they went all out. From the Darling’s house to the lost boys’ hideout to a pirate ship floating on a sea of blue pumpkins.

Kids ran around in costume, moms snapped photos, dads trailed exploring toddlers. It’s adorable chaos, but a big enough space that it didn’t feel crowded.

Outside the themed setup, the park does a good job of having additional pumpkin displays scattered throughout the park, ensuring that even if kids aren’t your thing, there’s plenty of autumn to embrace. Very Instagram-worthy.

Dallas Arboretum does seasonal events throughout the year, but I’d heard the most about Autumn at the Arboretum. It also felt the most unique of any seasonal garden event, so if you only go to one, try fall!
