Happy December, everyone! Are you as excited about this month as I am?? I absolutely love the Thanksgiving-Christmas season. I know, so is just about everyone else, but it’s such a special time!
To me, ringing in December officially welcomes winter. Oklahoma weather disagrees and has kept it in the 60’s and 70’s off and on the past two weeks, but I’m determined to embrace winter regardless.
Some people may scoff at my childlike love of Christmas, but why wouldn’t you embrace the season? When I look at the world, it can be hard not to be discouraged or depressed. There’s a lot going on in my life lately that I either can’t share publicly or don’t have the words to yet. But I’m deeply craving the peace and joy that this season represents. My faith means Christmas is about more than gifts and good cheer, and I want to make that my focus this year. Christmas, followed by the near-automatic slowing down of life in winter, couldn’t come at a better time.
So in the interest of leaning into celebration, peace, and joy, my winter bucket list in minimal. I’m so type A that if I put it on the list – even if it’s a fun list –
I feel obligated to do it and disappointed if I don’t. So my list is particularly short this season, which feels freeing.
Winter Bucket List
- Introduce Wedge to snow!
- Make Christmas cookies
- Read Big Magic, Love in the Time of Cholera, and Surprised by Scripture
- Make homemade pasta, macarons, and hot cider
- look at christmas lights
- spend a snow day watching movies
- make a 2016 photo album
- photograph weekly
That’s it. Keeping it simple, so I focus less on crossing things off and more on the season itself.
What’s on your winter bucket list??

[…] know my obsession with bucket lists, so think of this as an Oklahoma/Great Plains bucket […]
I love your take on this, I’m totally doing this. Thanks for the inspiration love! xx
Your bucket list for the season has some amazing stuff, Photobook for 2016 sounds something I need to add to my list too 🙂
Yes! I love actually looking at the photos we take!
I try to cross off as many seasonal things as possible off my list during the holiday season! I still have a lot on my list lol
I know – I love embracing the season!!
I absolutely loved the big magic book, you must read! I love your idea of making a 2016 photo album, I never get pics printed anymore and it’s such a shame not have albums to look through!
It seems like everyone who’s read it loved it! It’s been on my list for ages and I’ve even bought it – just haven’t sat down to read. Hoping to this winter!
These sound like fun ideas! I def want to try to make apple cider because I love apple cider! And I think making a 2016 photo album is such a fun and special idea!!! Def going to do that 🙂
I used to make annual photo books, but I fell behind (as you can tell from the 2016 date, ha)!
Homemade pasta!? Yum! Definitely do a blog post about that! I’ve always wanted to learn how!
I definitely will!! 🙂
