Before you think it, let me say it: this dip has a stupid name. There’s no great name for it, because it’s not exactly like anything. It’s not quite onion dip and it’s not ranch dip, but it’s got that same savory, cravable effect of both of those.
Plus, it’s made with yogurt instead of sour cream to give you less fat and more protein! Huzzah! Greek yogurt gives a savory flavor (much like sour cream) but is wayyyyyy better for you. Any recipe ever that uses sour cream or mayo, I’ve probably substituted Greek yogurt for it. It doesn’t always work, but it’s fantastic here.
It’s perfect to eat on raw veggies – bell peppers are my personal favorite – but also works in as an aloli on sandwiches or meat. I especially like it on salmon.
It couldn’t be simpler to make: just chop, dump and stir! And the spices expand, so I like to make it the night before if I’m serving it as an appetizer.
Like lots of Teaspoon of Nose original recipes, you can mix and match to suit yourself on flavors. Want more onion? Go for it! Hate onion? Just skip it.
When serving this at a recent three-year-old’s birthday party, the birthday boy liked it! Anything I can get a three-year-old to eat is a success in my book.
Savory Yogurt Dip
Ingredients:
- 2 cups plain Greek yogurt
- 1/4 onion, diced very fine (I use this to get the tiny bits I want)
- 1 garlic clove, diced fine
- 1 1/2 tsp dried dill
- salt & pepper to taste
Steps:
- In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients. Stir thoroughly.
That’s it! All it takes for a great dip that’s way healthier than the average sour cream dip.
I love setting this yogurt dip out for whenever friends come by. It’s perfect for football games, watching movies or just a snack to set out at parties!
Need more appetizer options? Try hot spinach dip, tapenade, or southwestern salsa!
I love this yoghurt dip but never knew how to make it! Thank s for this recipe. I’ll definitely recreate it!

That looks so tasty, it would be perfect for a barbecue… The sun has started to shine in the UK so maybe I will actually get to try it?!!
“This dip has a stupid name.” Lol. It’s a perfectly adequate name. And it looks yummy! I love things that are easy to make because frankly, I’m a very, very lazy cook.
Yummy!! I love using Greek yogurt in place of sour cream!
Me too!! I’m all about that life!
