Chex Mix is a classic snack that only takes 7 minutes to make yourself! Plus, if you make it instead of buy it, you can personalize the ingredients to exactly what you like most.
Growing up, I always associate Chex Mix with the holidays. Every winter, my mom would make huge batches to give away or set out when friends come over. I didn’t even realize you could buy it pre-made until high school! So even though it’s not winter yet, the slightly cooler temperatures are making me yearn for some of those great holiday foods. Plus, this is great for serving at tailgates or parties all autumn long!
This time, I added parmesan goldfish because it’s my kitchen, why the heck not?! But seriously, the thing I love about making it myself is customizing the ingredients. No digging around in the bowl to avoid too many nuts. The most traditional recipes use bagel chips, but here in small town Oklahoma I couldn’t find any at the store. So go crazy, and add whatever bits you’d like!
Start with your Chex! Combine those and your other savory bits in a bowl.
Melt the butter, then add Worcestershire and spices.
Pour the liquid over your mix and stir gently to coat.
Microwave everything for 6 minutes, stirring every minute. When it’s done cooking, spread it on a paper towel to cool.
You end up with that salty, savory deliciousness that you love from Chex Mix!
Chex Mix
Ingredients:
- 3 cups wheat Chex
- 3 cups rice Chex
- 3 cups corn Chex
- 1 cup pretzels, the smaller the better
- 1 cup goldfish, bagel chips, or another savory treat
- 1 cup nuts (I used peanuts)
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- dash paprika
- dash chili powder
Steps:
- Combine the first six ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
- Melt the butter and add Worcestershire sauce and spices to it. Stir well.
- Pour the liquid over the mix and stir well to coat everything.
- Microwave for 6 minutes, stirring every minute. This is SUPER important, don’t skip the stirring!
- Spread the mix over paper towels to cool.
