Y’all, I’m going
Doesn’t it just scream at you to put down that to do list and sit outside with a friend of a book? It’s perfect for an afternoon on the patio or hosting a fourth of July party.
Can you get over that color? It turns coral after some time in the fridge and I LOVE it. Both the color and the berry flavor intensify with time, so I like to make it the night before.
You can use whatever berries you prefer – I went with a roughly equal mix of strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. The strawberries add the most flavor-wise, but you should go with your gut on ratios. If you want more raspberry or blackberry flavor, cut them in half: more juice to get into the sangria!
Choose a wine that you love. I went with a Sauvignon Blanc that wasn’t too dry – the ones from New Zealand usually have some grapefruit flavor in there which works really well. If you use a sweet white, go easy on the simple syrup and taste as you go! What a chore, right? Tasting the cocktail as you go?
I say this every time, but please please please don’t waste your money on buying simple syrup – make your own! Equal parts sugar and water in a pan on low heat. When the sugar is dissolved and the liquid seems a tiny bit thicker, it’s done! I keep the stuff in my fridge for iced coffee, so there’s always some on hand.
Tools you’ll need: pitcher and wooden spoon.
