Hey, I’m Emma! I’m the traveler, amateur Italian, and aspiring foodie behind Where’s Emma Now. Whether it’s a day trip to the next town over or a once-in-a-lifetime vacation in Europe, I’m always dreaming up the next trip!
Travel should be life-changing and eye-opening, times of learning and trying and connecting. Eating should be the same: an experience rather than a mere necessity, a tangible way to care for yourself and others and soak in more of what this world has to offer.
I’ve lived on three continents & visited 50 countries, so I’m passionate about helping travelers experience the best of any location!
I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, & what extra secret things your ticket can get you!
My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn’t have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is the street food! But if it is a splurge, I’ll make sure it’s worth every penny.

Who I am
I’ve been obsessed with travel ever since having the opportunity to go to China with my grandma as a teenager. It’s motivated me to plan life around maximizing travel: from choosing my college based on their study abroad options to pushing for jobs and family plans involving living abroad, it’s where my brain goes first when I think about what I want out of life.
My husband and I just had a son in winter of 2025, so you’ll see both of those guys here too! Pre-baby, I travelled solo as much as I did with my husband or friends. These days I’ve nearly always got a tiny plus one tagging along.
We moved to Germany in summer 2025! We’re with my husband’s job (he’s military) and we’ve tried to make the most of our time wherever we get sent. But to no one’s surprise, we both prefer living abroad!
I spent the past five years living the in small town Italy! I learned the language and local customs, embraced la dolce vita, and tried to see as much of Italy and Europe as I possibly could.
Outside of traveling, I love to cook and bake, and you’ll find bits of that here too. I’m a total adrenaline junkie with a passion for trying new things. No fashion advice here; I constantly got looks from my well-dressed Italian neighbors in spite of my best efforts.
You can sum me up like this: if I’m not traveling, I’m probably cooking!

Hi Emma!
I was just browsing aimlessly this morning and found your Pinterest presence. Travel in Italy caught my eye…still scrolling… “Day trips from Altus”?? What? There’s an Altus in Italy? No, you mean Altus, OK!
My husband and our 2 littles were stationed there from 1980-1983. Yes, everything was a day trip from there- even the dentist in Lawton. I’m sure it has grown and changed a bit since then. We enjoyed our stay there; the people were so friendly and nice.
We spent most of our military days in Dover, DE, with the C5 life. We are retired now, still in Dover, but looking to move to RI where our daughter and 2 of the grands live.
I just wanted to say hi, and hope you are well!
